Lessons of My Life

Everyone does things for their own reasons. These reasons lead the person to obtaining results.. Someone once told me that “The Universe is a University - You can learn from anyone, anything, anywhere. ”  This is one of the best lessons that I have learnt that has spawned many new thoughts and ideas. It opened doors for me to explore, open my eyes to the world around me to use what I sense, to catapult myself to new levels. Every experience now meant a new learning.
This inspired me to capture and evaluate lessons that I learnt from different situations and people.
The following are some of the main lessons that I have recorded:
1)      Give and it will come back to you.
I had once taken part in a music concert as a member of the choir. As part of the repertoire of songs that we were performing that day, there was a song entitled ‘Give and it will come back to you’.  This made me think about the times where I only focused on getting things from people, only looking for what will benefit me. I realized that the happiness that I felt was short-lived. It lasted only till I got what I wanted and then faded away. Then, I shifted focus to the times I helped someone or did something to make someone else happy. I realized that the happiness I felt, not only stayed with me, but it multiplied to make someone else feel good too.

2)      Failure is a stepping stone to success.
This lesson I relate to an experience where I had failed to achieve a certain target that I had set for myself. I felt miserable at not being able to complete my goal. This intensified my desire to prove myself and break my own records. For my next goal, I worked with more determination and achieved success. Not only did I break my own records, but I also performed better than many others in the same class. This incident made me realize that failure is a stepping stone to success.

3)      Happiness is where you are and what you want to be.
As I walk by the streets every day, I see people going in different directions towards their different destinations. One day, I saw a street urchin, playing with the outer rim of a wheel and rolling it along. He laughed and jumped as he kept rolling the wheel across the street. He did not think of his condition, he just kept playing and this made him happy.
This made me realize that no matter where a person is, what their problems are, how wealthy or intelligent they are, they always have a right to be happy and that happiness is just a smile away.

4)      God is my strength
This line was the motto of the school that I studied at. The teachers  always instilled in the students that God is always there to guide each and every being on this planet and that God can be a person’s strength during their times of weakness. I have always kept this as a guideline for the decisions that I make in life. I know, at some level, that God is guiding me and leading me to enlightenment with every step that I take, in the walk of life.

The above encapsulate four major lessons that I have learnt and take with me wherever I go. Through learning, there can be transformation, and I look forward to recording and applying more lessons in life, so that I can enlighten others and help them lead better lives.
