SCMM 2017 - I Went the Distance!

When the going gets tough, the tough get going! Check out a recording of my Cover of 'Eye of the Tiger' by Survivor that I performed with the Band that I am part of -AFM. They are a group of incredible, yet humble musicians and I am ever thankful that I could share the stage with them!

After I completed performing this song on stage, my band mates urged me to go forward with the marathon run as I had registered. They encouraged me told me I could do it. I felt blessed to be a part of such a supportive and understanding band! :-)

Since our performance stage was very far from the race start point, I had to walk and find my way to Azaad Maidan from where the race would commence. All the roads were blocked and the side-walks were full of people cheering for the marathon runners. I squeezed my way in between stages and asked dozens of police officers and by standers the route to the start point, but no one seemed to know. This was part of reason why the experience of being a part of the dream run was at first, a nightmare, because I was lost and could not find the starting point. Being guided wrongly, I almost gave up on even starting with the race as I had managed to reach the entrance half an hour late. But, a little nudge from someone inspired me to move forward. She said, "Go! Go!.. The entrance is that-a-way! You can still do it.

I followed my gut feeling and my heart and walked robotically..I followed the path I thought was right; and lo and behold, it turned out to be the correct path! There were people walking in a leasurely fashion while I wanted to complete it asap and go home. So I used my "Andheri-Station manouvering skills" and ran past a majority of the crowd.
In the process, I ended up enjoying every moment and the final feeling of accomplishment over completing it.
My first ever experience of a marathon is surreal and a walk+run+song to remember.
